The leadership team of Camp Thousand Miles boasts a combined wealth of over seven decades of expertise in the realms of camping, childcare, and travel, drawing from diverse backgrounds and experiences.
Adam joins the Camp Thousand Miles team with over a decade in summer camp experience. He has held a variety of roles including group leader, waterfront director, trip director and director of operations. Adam loves camp because of the people and the relationships built in such a unique environment and cannot wait to bring this magic to Camp Thousand Miles. Adam spent several summers coordinating all aspects of multi-week camp trips including safety, logistics and itinerary planning in order to assure safe and smooth trips for all campers and staff.
Wendy joins Camp Thousand Miles with 16 years of experience in summer camps. She has built deep knowledge and strong skills in dealing with bilingual and bicultural challenges in a camp. Previously she had worked in high tech companies with various senior management roles. She graduated from top universities in China and the US with an MBA from Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. She has actively volunteered in her community, including leadership positions at school district-wide events and booster clubs. She believes in whole person development and positive child-parent relationships in a child’s growth.
Johnny, born and raised in Kansas City Missouri, joins the Camp Thousand Miles team with more than 20 years of experience in working with children and youth development. He received his degree in Middle School Education with an emphasis in Language Arts and Science and is a New York Certified teacher in the NY private school sector. His passion for all aspects of youth development grew from his experience overseeing staff and the kids in their direct care at a renowned summer camp in the Northeast. Johnny has a unique skill set in assisting others in the areas of social, emotional, and physical intelligence, along with mental health. He cannot wait to add cultural intelligence to his repertoire.
Wenyu joins the Camp Thousand Miles team with over a decade of summer camp experience. For five consecutive summers she worked at one of America’s top traditional summer camps. She has helped hundreds of Chinese campers quickly integrate into American camps and gain the best camp experience and lifelong memories. Each summer Wenyu feels extremely happy and proud to see the distinct and transferable growth and changes of the campers in the camp. Wenyu received her MBA from Brandeis University. She loves traveling and photography, and currently lives in Dallas with her beloved dog Shirley.
Scott Aldrich is a long time high school English teacher who has enjoyed more than ten summers in various leadership roles at a camp in New York, including heading several cross-country adventure trips for campers. He has a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Education and is currently finishing a Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health to become a therapist specializing in adolescents and young adults. His family owns and operates a reindeer farm in Michigan where he teaches visitors about history and science of animals on their farm. Scott has traveled around the U.S., parts of Europe, and previously spent 3 months teaching English in Ghana with his university program. His love of travel, nature, and working with young people have him incredibly excited about joining the Camp Thousand Miles team!
Alison is a rising sophomore at Vanderbilt University. With a dynamic background including experience as a camp counselor, Alison has honed leadership and mentoring skills, drawing personal experience attending camps while growing up. In addition, Alison has a strong commitment to community service, volunteering regularly at the Perot Museum of Natural Science, where she excels at engaging children with interactive exhibits and activities. Alison brings a rich cultural perspective, being bilingual in Chinese and English. She also holds various leadership positions in school organizations, volunteers at the hospital, and is a research assistant in her lab. She looks forward to this summer with CTM!
