Camp Thousand Miles is owned and operated by S.A.R. United LLC. S.A.R. United was named in memory of Scott A. Ralls, a true visionary of the camping world. Scott’s heart and personality were larger than life and that was emulated in everything he did. In 1997 Scott and his wife Andrea founded Camp Southwoods, based on Paradox Lake in the Adirondack Mountains of NY. Over the years Scott and Andrea worked with thousands of children and young adult staff to not only provide amazing summer experiences, but to build confidence and self-esteem by reinforcing positive human values. Some of Scott’s accolades include serving as the president of the American Camping Association (ACA) of New York and New Jersey and president of Project Morry.
Among those touched by Scott and Andrea were Adam Kaufman, Johnny Reinke and Wendy and Wenyu Zhao. Wendy and Wenyu worked with the Ralls’s for many years recruiting and facilitating logistics of bringing campers from China to experience camp for the first time at Southwoods. They also partnered with Scott and Andrea in assisting Chinese campers to integrate into the camp community at Southwoods. It is through Scott and Andrea that Adam and Johnny met Wendy and Wenyu and allowed S.A.R. United and Camp Thousand Miles to be born.
Camp Thousand Miles was created in order to bring a very unique once-in-a-lifetime experience to all youth. By providing a mix of cultural immersion, the traditional summer camp experience as well as travel with friends (new and old), Camp Thousand Miles helps to promote whole-person education and growth through immersion, experiences and relationships.
